Crime is increasing day by day. What happened in Guwahati embarrassed the whole nation. All of us are blaming the system, the police and the government but what about the people. It happened on a busy road with lots people walking by but no one responded to the endless pleas of that girl or her friends.
The 17-year-old girl, who is pursuing studies in fashion designing in the national capital, was attacked when she was returning home after celebrating the birthday of her friend, at a bar. The girl was subjected to assault and molestation for nearly half an hour before being rescued by some passers-by.
This could have been stopped the moment it started if people wouldn’t have been insensitive. This is not just the case of metros and big cities but small cities as well. Girls are kidnapped in broad daylight but no one speaks against it. You are not safe even with police. Government claims to have taken steps to curb this kind of hideous crimes but to no avail. Every girl or lady cannot go out with four bodyguards around her.
While travelling in public transit services we all encounter cases of eve teasing but hardly any one of us interferes. But when time comes to go to some candle march against increase in sexual crimes against women and girls we are the first one over there.
‘Prevention is better than cure’, you all must have heard this phrase. This is the case of rapes as well, they have to be prevented and not cured. If you stop eve teasing, raise your voice on time and force the law authorities to take steps on time, these cases will eliminate forever. Just remember, this time it was someone else molested on road, but next time it could be you or your daughter, sister, wife, mother or your friend.
So true.... People love blaming govt & police for everythin but they dont want to take up responsibility to deal wid such issues themselves....
